About us

alta – or ‘high’ in Portuguese – is inspired by the potential of this amazing city. Our dispensary, located in the bustling Nolita–Chinatown neighborhood, is part of a family legacy from the mid-70's. Giving back to the community is so important to us so a portion of all proceeds go to Send Chinatown Love to support local small businesses. We look forward to hosting community events to become a gathering point for the new generation of cannabis users.

Our Story

From owner Vanessa Yee-Chan: This building has acted as our family’s Plymouth Rock since my grandparents escaped war-ravaged Mozambique in 1974, purchasing 52 Kenmare Street in 1976 as a foundation to rebuild all they left behind.

Today, as a third-generation multi-hyphenate business owner, I’m so proud to continue my family’s legacy in this same location and to do something that is so personal to my own story.

Now I want to share these incredible products with other women who may be as intimidated as I was by the distinctly smoke shop-like spaces cannabis is typically sold in.
